The spring winds are here, moving everything in their paths. It’s the time of year when El Rito rearranges itself and erases the tracks of the winter. These paintings bear the names of winds from around the world..

Now that the El Rito Studio Tour has come and gone, I am having a good time playing in my studio. These paintings were inspired by a reading of William Blake’s poem, Tyger, Tyger, and use text as a textural and linear element. Both paintings are acrylic on Claybord panel, and measure 12″ x 12″.

I was walking on the tall grass prairie in the Flint Hills in Matfield Green, KS, when I came upon this nest with two very young birds in it. I had frightened the mother off the nest, and it was a cold and rainy day. As soon as I moved off, she returned. It was a stunning sight, and one I was thrilled to have seen.
