Lifelines, an exhibition in the Galeria Arriba at the Abiquiu Inn

The show at the Abiquiu Inn is up, and I am pleased with how it looks. I have envisioned my work in that space for a long time, and it was gratifying to see it become a reality. The opening was wonderful. I got to visit with many old friends and share entertaining and enlightening conversations. Here are some images from the show:

The spring winds are here, moving everything in their paths. It’s the time of year when El Rito rearranges itself and erases the tracks of the winter. These paintings bear the names of winds from around the world..

Paper staining with FW inks

Saturday, I took a workshop with Don Voss at the Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos, NM. We learned an assortment of techniques for using FW inks to stain papers, which are admirably suited to use as bases for painting, or for development as book pages. Don shared a lot of technical information about the inks and the ways different papers reacted to them. It was an inspiring day, with a lot of fun and many ideas for how I can use this method of working with paper and ink. I have used FW inks to create book covers for many years, but Don had many methods which result in very rich and dense pages. I am so glad I was able to participate in this afternoon.

Now that the El Rito Studio Tour has come and gone, I am having a good time playing in my studio. These paintings were inspired by a reading of William Blake’s poem, Tyger, Tyger, and use text as a textural and linear element. Both paintings are acrylic on Claybord panel, and measure 12″ x 12″.
